Ferry schedule

BC Ferries’ sailings should be easy from Vancouver Island to Westview [“Ferries task force posts schedule,” February 19].

They could leave Little River at 6 am and be at Westview at 7:15 am, then leave Westview at 9 am for Little River.

Also anyone going to the island should not worry as the last ferry from Little River would be 9:20 pm. The last ferry from Westview should leave at 11 pm for sports teams going home to the island.

The Texada Island ferries would be on time for people going to events or shopping or medical appointments on Vancouver Island.

BC Ferries should be able to work it out.

Festival flare

Last week I watched five films from five countries…all of them outstanding and inspiring [“Filmmakers inspire next generation,” February 12]. I also took in several brilliant short films created by Powell River film students and students from other parts of the province. And, I noted, as I have every year that I attend the Powell River Film Festival, happy and engaged audiences, helpful volunteers and dedicated staff. Wow.

All this plus free parking, great venues minutes from home and I didn't have to take a ferry anywhere.

Pancakes and tributes

I want to say how grateful I am to everyone involved in making the pancake breakfast to celebrate Olive Devaud Residence’s 47 years a success [“Staff celebrate care facility,” February 26].

The event was held February 19 and there was a big turnout, although I heard that some of the staff working that day were unable to attend due to their busy work schedules which was unfortunate.

I certainly enjoyed meeting up with past and present employees.

Missing something, I am

It's just amazing how the “financial wizards” of the BC Liberal Party can bring in a “balanced budget” that leaves the province (us) another $2 billion, a year, to add to an increasing $67 billion debt [“In session,” February 21]. At this rate the $100 billion windfall (dream) from liquefied natural gas “should” just cover the debt. This is progress?

Why does it seem that sending smoke signals in a fog requires about the same amount of political acumen? Did you vote Liberal?
