Doctor shortage

I am very concerned about the lack of general practitioners in Powell River [“Orphaned patient numbers rise,” December 5, 2012]. My mother is in her mid-70s and due to circumstances beyond her control, has just lost her doctor. My mother has serious health issues, is confined to a wheelchair and is now forced to fend for herself as regards a family doctor.

I sent an email to the health minister but she chose to ignore me. It worries me that not only are there no doctors taking new patients but the ministry is turning a blind eye to the problem and to the ones who need its support and help.

That second word

After reading “Opposition grows,” December 19, 2012, one could reasonably conclude that Texada Action Now (TAN) chair Chuck Childress may very well be in a conflict of interest.

Texada Island coal is not wanted, not needed, not green. This meets the TAN criteria to wage a war against this draconian proposal. The options laid out before Childress may be twofold: potentially jeopardize future Lafarge dollars or step down as chair. This is an interesting conundrum, one that may shape the outcome.

Childress has previously appeared in a Global Television news item titled “Texada showdown,” filed by reporter Ted Chernecki, where he refers to Texada as “affordable paradise.” The first word will remain correct, but what about the second word?
