Letter: Burn residual waste

Good news indeed to get the grant for our new resource recovery centre [“ qathet Regional District receives grant for solid-waste centre ,” November 16].

Good news indeed to get the grant for our new resource recovery centre [“qathet Regional District receives grant for solid-waste centre,” November 16].

Will qathet's asset manager make full use of a related community's valuable asset? This is the mill's fluid bed incinerator with its state-of-the-art smoke stack and new very efficient electric power generators. Millions of tax dollars from governments grants went into making this asset so.

Residual solid waste left over from the resource recovery process can safely be incinerated at this community asset. This should be done free.

Money from the sale of electric power to BC Hydro, generated by burning residual waste, surely should be given to the resource recovery centre to reduce their processing costs. This has been done extensively across the world. It dramatically reduces recycling costs.
