Do you have an old computer, phone or electronic device you are looking to get rid of?

The Electronic Products Recycling Association of BC wants people to make sure they consider options other than the landfill before disposing their obsolete electronics.

According to the organization, more than 200,000 tons of electronics are recycled each year across the province since the EPRA BC program started more than a decade ago.

"More than three million devices are diverted from our province’s landfills and our environment every year," the organization said in a press release. "That means valuable materials are being recovered and used in the manufacturing of new products."

EPRA BC offers a few recycling tips for the holiday season:

• Recycle old devices: No matter how old, most electronics with a battery or plug can be recycled. Visit recyclemyelectronics.ca/bc to find an accredited drop-off centre near you.

• Reuse: Some products still have some life left in them and can be given to a family member or friend. Your outdated mobile phone could be your dad's new music player.

• Donate: Non-profit organizations will often take old computers. Go to reusetechbc.ca and see its Computers for Schools program to learn more.

• Sell: There is a market for older devices from value-conscious consumers who prefer to purchase their products second hand. Consider listing your old computer, television or phone on Craigslist or Kijiji.
