Viewpoint: Charter protects freedom of association, assembly, expression

The charter gave written enshrined rights and freedoms to every Canadian and they have been violated over the past two years unjustifiably by governments. ~ A. Brian Peckford

I disagree with Mr. Hackett’s opinion on the Canadian Charter of Right and Freedoms [“Viewpoint: Misunderstanding the charter of rights and freedoms,” April 28].

The charter clearly states the freedoms and rights that every Canadian possesses, sections 2, 6, 7 and 15.

No one is debating that a citizen must conduct responsible behaviour, as did the truckers. All the allegations of foreign dark funding have been dismissed by experts like Fantec that tracks international money flow. And there are no charges of violence.

I was there in Ottawa and it was peaceful and responsible behaviour. The charter protects such behaviour through “freedom of association and freedom of assembly as well as freedom of expression” in section 2.

The so called “waiver” of section 1 of the charter does not apply because the intent of this section is for it to apply in situations where the state was in peril. That was not so over the last two years with an over 99 per cent recovery rate from the COVID-19 virus and a less than one per cent fatality rate. Hardly a state in peril. Note the wording of section 4 which refers to war and insurrection.

And for arguments sake, if section 1 did apply the governments did not meet the tests required, especially the test of “demonstrably justify” and “free and democratic society.”

My opinion is that as far as public health goes, there were better alternate treatments available, not like the experimental, still in testing vaccines which kill and injure the recipients of them. I believe that these COVID vaccines have killed more people in two years than all vaccines together over the previous 30 years.

And those lockdowns? Simon Fraser University professor Douglas Allen, in March 2021, produced a report reviewing 80 studies worldwide and found that the cure was worse than the disease. I quote Dr. Allen: “That is, it is possible that lockdowns will go down as one of the greatest peacetime policy failures in Canada’s history.”

The charter gave written enshrined rights and freedoms to every Canadian and they have been violated over the past two years unjustifiably by governments. And the science puts a lie to the public health argument as masks have proven to be ineffective with cases rising around the world (Swiss Policy Institute) after mask mandates, PCR tests unreliable as stated by the inventor, vaccines experimental (pharma and government admit) and of temporary effectiveness and cause other medical problems and kill and injury, and the vaccinated transmit the virus.

Oh, and the charter also says in the opening, “the principles of the supremacy of God and the rule of law also apply.”
