This week people across the world are taking action in support of reducing climate change, culminating in a global climate strike on September 27, 2019. I would love to see Powell River businesses support the Global Climate Strike.

This could be a brilliant PR strategy for any business, highlighting the business as forward-thinking and concerned about the well-being of its customers, community and the planet.

Ideally, businesses would be closed for the entire day on Friday, September 27

However, recognizing that it is not feasible for all businesses to forgo an entire day of operation, here are some alternative actions that businesses could take to show its support for the Global Climate Strike:

  • Shut down for an hour (Earth Strike Hour: put sign on door)

  • Put up signs/banners of support in window

  • Wear something representing/supporting the strike

  • Have a moment of silence

  • Shut down the website for the day (digital.globalclimatestrike.net)

  • Make an announcement over speakers

  • Give a percentage of sales that day to an environmental group of your choosing

I encourage business owners/operators to talk with colleagues and employees and take a step into the future for the sake of future generations by taking part in the Global Climate Strike on Friday, September 27.
