It can be hard to find things that fit right in an off-the-rack world, but for those with a passion for excellence, bespoke pieces from skilled artisans can fit perfectly.

Matt and Nicole Bordignon of Elemental Design and Millwork are two of those artisans, and they have spent the last two years helping home and business owners in Powell River create their unique visions for their perfect spaces.

“We moved to Powell River nine years ago, and started Elemental in the summer of 2018,” says Matt, who is an award-winning Red Seal cabinetmaker. “I have always wanted to run my own business creating special projects for people. Since we have started, it has been a dream come true.”

Customer service is a fundamental philosophy for Matt and Nicole.

“We want our customers’ projects to be a reflection of themselves,” explains Nicole. “We work with their unique tastes and desires and hone in on what they want to create. We educate and walk our customers through their options, and help make their new build, reface or renovation an enjoyable experience.”

Over the last two years, Elemental has created commercial kitchens and residential kitchens, refaced existing kitchens and bathrooms, and has also worked on custom built-ins, office space cabinetry and reception desks. Matt’s most memorable project has been a built-in bookcase that included a hidden door. “It’s a dream-come-true project for a cabinetmaker,” he says. “Besides, a hidden doorway is just cool; everyone should have one.”

This past year, Nicole oversaw a whole-home renovation that turned a dated rancher into a beautiful beachside bungalow. “That project encompassed all the details, from new windows and doors, paint and trim to a new kitchen build,” she says. “To walk alongside our customers and bring their ideas to life, and to see them so happy when it was finished, was an amazing experience and confirms why we do what we do.”

Attention to detail also sets Elemental apart.

“We have 3D-modelling software so we can show the customer exactly what they will get,” says Matt. “We buy domestically-made low VOC and NAUF grade sheet goods, market-leading Greenguard-certified paint products, and soft close drawer and hinge hardware. Our eco footprint and the health of our customers and employees are very important to us.”

Elemental has also instituted new procedures in the wake of COVID-19.

“We are now conducting many of our meetings and communication via Zoom, telephone and email,” says Nicole.

Matt and Nicole look forward to continuing to help home and business owners in Powell River.

“We all deserve our homes and businesses to reflect our inner happy space, and Elemental is here to bring that space into reality,” says Matt.
