Powell River singer/songwriter Tyler Bartfai’s performance in Townsite on Sunday, May 5, coincides with the release of Can You Tell, his debut EP.

When Tyler Bartfai takes to the stage at the Patricia Theatre in Townsite on Sunday, May 5, the Powell River born-and-raised singer/songwriter will be completing two goals: releasing his first EP and performing at venue rich with local history.

“To be doing it at the Patricia is going to be awesome; I'm really looking forward to it.” says Tyler. “I've always wanted to do a show there, so it’s nice to do what for me will be a historic show; launching my first EP in such a historic venue is pretty neat.”

Tyler Bartfai’s EP Release Show takes place from 2 to 4:30 pm. Special guest Shaun Rawlins, an indie-folk singer/songwriter, will get the afternoon of music started with music from two of his own EPs.

“We will have my buddy Shaun opening; he is coming up from Vancouver,” says Tyler, “and then I will be playing a full show with three other folks in a band.”

Drummer Lyell Woloschuk, bass player Austin Parise and guitarist Noah Martinig will join Bartfai on stage for the performance, which will include all five tracks on Can You Tell. The EP will be fully released on Tuesday, May 7.

“It will be a full hour and a half set, so those songs will be included but I have quite a few other songs,” says Tyler. “I wanted to pick five of mine that were unique to themselves to put on the EP, but I do have 25 or 30 other songs.”

Putting the EP together turned out out better than expected, he adds, and worth the wait.

“It is one of those things where if it is worth doing, it is worth doing right, so I waited for the right opportunity to come along,” explains Tyler. “I am really excited for it; it's nice to finally get a high-end product out.”

Tyler has recorded previously, but Can You Tell is different, he says.

“I've done some live off the floor stuff, but this is my first real studio album,” he adds.

As a singer, guitarist and songwriter, Tyler says his music is part of a broad genre.

“It is a little bit all over the place, kind of blues-folk and pop-oriented,” he explains.

In addition to experiencing the new music in a live setting, those attending the concert will also have the opportunity to purchase the first available copies of the album.

Tickets for the all-ages show are $15 each and available at the Peak, 4493 Marine Avenue, or online at eventbrite.ca/d/canada--british-columbia/tyler-bartfai.
