The Vault Venue and Restaurant offers wide range of events

Toga party launches rebranding
Amy Sharp
The Vault Venue and Restaurant owner Amy Sharp has rebranded her business to focus more on events and food.

An Animal House-themed toga party Saturday night will be just the beginning of a new era for The Vault Venue and Restaurant (formerly That Sugar Vault). The free event will feature the classic National Lampoon film running on the venue’s big screen, along with complimentary food for those in costume and drink specials.

“We've enlisted local jokester Darren Nivens, who conveniently knows the entire dialogue of the film, word for word, to host the party,” says Vault owner Amy Sharp. “This event has no cover charge and free nibbles for all who come in costume, with a grand prize for the best group with five or more people.”

Sharp says her reason for renaming the business was to simplify and make it clearer to customers that The Vault is an event venue and restaurant.

“People still ask, ‘What are you guys, anyway?’” says Sharp. “I’m so excited about this new definition of what we are and what we do.”

The Vault has an “action-packed” lineup coming up, says Sharp, including live music, trivia nights, theme parties, such as an anime night with a cosplay contest, board game nights, tarot card readings and even live art demos that will be streamed on the restaurant’s Facebook page. And that’s not all, she says.

The Vault’s popular Alternative Facts Trivia will be a regular night, hosted by PRX101.com’s Zane Sampson and judged by a panel of celebrity guests. The next trivia night takes place Friday, April 28.

“We have confirmed BC Green Party candidate Kim Darwin, Safeway manager Steve Wadsworth and Laura Passek of Powell River Logger Sports fame for the next one,” says Sharp. “There’s no cover charge and we give a gift certificate to the winner.”

On the live music side, local musicians Gitta May Nielsen and Doug Rugg perform at an unplugged-style evening on Saturday, April 22, with a suggested donation of $10, and Vancouver singer-songwriter Shawn Rawlins is joined by familiar face Tyler Bartfai on Friday, May 5, again by donation.

“I’ve dreamed of having a venue for a long time,” says Sharp, “and now it's come true!”
