Gymnasts compete at provincial level

Three athletes from Powell River Gymnastics Club attended the BC Provincial Championships held in Prince George recently.

Victoria Lecouteur is a level two athlete who qualified to participate by attending the zone meet in Duncan where she came in third out of eight competitors. At the provincials, Lecouteur had a great competition tying for eighth place on vault, tying for fourth place on uneven bars (a personal best score), 16th on balance beam, and second place, earning a silver medal (and also a personal best score) on the floor exercise. She placed seventh out of 25 for the all around.

The club had two level three athletes, Katie Dohm and Katya Senilova, compete in Prince George as well. Dohm struggled with her competition on all events except the floor exercise. This is Dohm’s third competition with new floor routine music and choreography. She tied seventh on floor out of 31 in her level and placed 21st in the all around rankings.

Senilova had a very strong showing at provincials. She tied for eighth place on vault, tied for 12th on bars (a personal best score), tied for fourth on balance beam and won bronze on the floor exercise. She topped the event off with an eighth place in the all around out of 31 participants.

“The club is very impressed by the dedication of these athletes and their representation of Powell River in the province,” said Joyce Percey, executive director of Powell River Gymnastics Society.
