LEAF RAPIDS — The northwestern Manitoba town of Leaf Rapids says one home has been destroyed by a wildfire that entered the community overnight.

It says in a social media post the house is the only structure that appears to have been damaged and the owner has been contacted.

It says flames have burned a forested area mostly in the northern portion of the community.

It also says some hydro poles leading into the town have burned, which could lead to power loss.

An evacuation order was issued for the town of about 350 people just over two weeks ago.

Officials said earlier this week that the town was completely surrounded by fires.

The town said one fire jumped the Churchill River and entered the community through its industrial area on Wednesday night.
