VICTORIA — British Columbia's Electoral Boundaries Commission is recommending the creation of six more electoral districts in the province, raising the number of ridings to 93 from the current 87.

Analysts attribute recent council battles to everything from increasing demands on municipalities to erosion of respect for public office, lingering pandemic effects and lack of experience

“The ministry is going out with a consultation on the act itself to stakeholders and most of that will be done going into this fall,” said Christine Adam, associate vice-president and dean of students at TRU.

Squamish RCMP say the suspect is avoiding arrest.

The incident occurred while the man was being lodged in a cell at the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment in November 2021

In his sentencing decision, judge notes that Jason Zerbin was in a position of trust at the time of the offence and the teenage victim — a member of his congregation — was living far from home.

The defence lawyer said the man threw water on his sister when he found her in his room with an electrician.

"I developed a crush on him but I closed that door due to our religious differences, so I crushed in silence for three years."
