School District 47 will be welcoming students to its international education program.

According to an August 18 social media post, the school district stated it is taking all steps it can to protect the community, while still being able to offer its world-class international education program, which has a 33-year history in Powell River.

“We feel it is important to offer the program, both for those students who remained here over the summer due to COVID-19 concerns, and also those who have arranged to come to Powell River for this school year,” the post stated. “Those students who are already here in Powell River are in the same risk category as any other Powell River resident.

“Those who will be arriving from overseas will quarantine in their home country for 14 days and must have a clean COVID-19 test three days before they fly to Canada. Once they arrive, they will be tested and quarantined for an additional 14 days, either in their host family’s home or somewhere else as determined between the student and the program.”

The Facebook post stated this will take place before the students begin attending classes.

“We know Powell River will welcome these students after their quarantine is over and will make them feel at home,” the post stated.

Anyone with further comments or concerns was asked to email [email protected].

Efforts by the Peak to contact the school district with regard to this program went without response.
