Powell River’s 2019 Dry Grad committee has been gaining attention and a lot of laughs with its latest fundraising venture. The group is currently delivering two colourfully decorated toilet lawn ornaments around town called “Party Poopers.”

The idea was brought to the committee by Brooks Secondary School parent Alison Foss, whose daughter is graduating this year. She’d heard about the concept being a successful and fun moneymaker elsewhere and thought it might work here. Another parent, Darrin Nivens, volunteered to source, decorate and help transport the ornaments to businesses and residences around town.

“It’s been a lot of fun so far,” said Foss. “I’ve been very busy lugging around these toilets since last Sunday. I just wish they weren’t so heavy.”

Foss is a nurse and has been transporting the indelicate ornaments in her van during her days off. If the toilet is delivered to a business or residence it costs $5 to have it taken away, $20 to have it sent to someone else and $25 to have it delivered elsewhere with insurance it will not come back.

“We’ve had very positive feedback from everybody; I think people like to prank their friends,” added Foss. “It’s ended up at the businesses. It went to one of the school teachers who sent it to another teacher. He had no idea where it came from but asked me to send it to exactly the place I just removed it from.”

The fundraiser will continue for the couple of weeks, said Foss. Those interested can call her at 604.414.6537. The number is also on the toilets.
