NAVAL MILITARY MEN: Retired rear admiral Richard Greenwood [left], along with his son Ian and former City of Powell River mayor Stewart Alsgard [right], both retired from the Royal Canadian Navy, were all in attendance at the 2018 Remembrance Day cenotaph ceremony held in Powell River on Sunday, November 11.

Veterans, cadets and first responders were joined by regional government officials, local organization representatives and hundreds of Powell River area residents for the ceremony held in Townsite. The crowd filled Veteran's Memorial Park and overflowed onto Walnut Street and Ash Avenue.

Area residents in attendance paid their respects to armed forces personnel from Powell River who lost their lives in World War I and II, and those who served or continue to serve their country. Two minutes of silence was followed by services including the placing of official wreaths at the cenotaph, two shots from a cannon and a salute to the veterans, as well as a march and parade.

Richard's father and Ian's grandfather, Frank, also a navy veteran, was also in attendance and accepted honorary salutes during the march.

The ceremony took place exactly 100 years after Germany and allied nations signed an armistice to end World War 1.
