B.C.-wide recall on Ming Xiang enoki mushrooms

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.

Enoki mushrooms from the Ming Xiang brand is being recalled for possible listeria monocytogenes contamination.

This product has been sold in British Columbia and might have been distributed in other parts of Canada.

In addition to conducting a food safety investigation, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is verifying that this product is being removed from the marketplace.

At present the CFIA is not reporting any illnesses associated with consuming these recalled mushrooms.

Avoid consuming this product and throw it out if it is in your home. If, however, you’ve consumed this product and feel sick, call your doctor.

What are the symptoms?

Listeria monocytogenes contamination may not look or smell spoiled but it can make a person sick. Symptoms include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headaches, and neck stiffness.

In particular, pregnant people, elderly, and immunocompromised individuals are at risk. And while infected pregnant people may experience flu-like symptoms, the infection can infect the newborn or other birth complications.

In the most severe cases, people may die.
