Closures went into effect Thursday for the Grouse Grind, BCMC and Baden-Powell trails.

As long-awaited precipitation hits the North Shore Mountains, popular trails are being closed as a precautionary measure.

On Thursday, Metro Vancouver Regional Parks issued a closure of Grouse Mountain Regional Park and its trails, the Grouse Grind, BCMC and the Baden-Powell.

Once the weather reaches a certain threshold, it's standard operating procedure to close the trails, says Metro Parks spokesperson Niki Reitmayer.

Crews did a sweep of the park Friday morning to assess any potential safety issues, she said, and expected the park and trails to open at noon the same day.

But with more rain forecasted over the weekend, Metro will likely shut Grouse trails again.

"On Sunday, they expect to close the park again out of precaution," Reitmayer said.

Then, starting on Monday, the park is set for a number of scheduled closures for upgrades and maintenance. Here's our article on those closures.
