Two men have been arrested in connection with a road rage altercation between big rig drivers on the Trans-Canada Highway that escalated into an alleged hammer assault.
Sicamous Mounties said they received a report of a physical fight between commercial truck drivers on the Trans-Canada Highway on July 28 at about 8:30 p.m.
“A 42-year-old truck driver from Calgary reported that he had been travelling westbound on the TCH when another semi truck had made contact with his rig while attempting to pass him,” Sicamous RCMP Sgt. Murray McNeil said in a news release.
Police said both drivers pulled over after the incident and two men exited the truck alleged to have attempted to pass the complainant.
The complainant told police one of the men was holding a hammer and the other was wielding a knife.
“The man with the hammer broke two windows on the victim's truck before striking him multiple times on the arm with the hammer,” McNeil said.
“The second man made threatening gestures while brandishing a knife.”
Police said the two men soon got back into their truck and departed the scene driving west before being quickly located and stopped by the Salmon Arm RCMP.
A 40-year-old man and a 61-year-old man were removed from the truck and arrested on charges of assault with a weapon.
Police said both suspects reside in Abbotsford and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
