Part of Smuggler Cove Provincial Park's trail closed as of Jan. 31 due to flooding.

Part of Smuggler Cove Marine Provincial Park has been temporarily closed by flooding once again. On Jan. 31, following a series of storms and heavy rainfall, parts of the trail flooded around the 500-metre mark.

Parks staff are monitoring the situation and will determine when the trail can safely reopen. First, the water levels must recede.

The park remains open for marine activities, BC Parks told Coast Reporter.

Despite the closure, people have still been using the trail. The parking lot was full on Saturday, Feb. 3. In a statement, BC Parks said, “People should avoid accessing the trail at this time and avoid creating trails which damages park vegetation.”

Updates about closures and reopening will be shared at https://bcparks.ca/smuggler-cove-marine-park/.
