Owners of a restaurant in Lund are collecting recipes for a book that will mark the 125th anniversary of the community.
Rayanna and Roy Blackwell, owners of the Boardwalk Restaurant, are collecting stories and pictures as well to incorporate into the book, which is one of the ideas to celebrate the anniversary. A committee has been established to plan anniversary events, which will take place in 2014.
Rayanna described the recipes as family favourites that don’t have to have any links to Lund. “If somebody wants to put a recipe in and contribute to the community, they’re more than welcome to,” she said. “I’m not going to be prejudiced about where the recipes come from.”
Her recipe that is going into the book is chicken and dumplings, Rayanna said. “I love my chicken and dumplings.”
There will also be recipes for people who have dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free recipes, Rayanna added. “One lady who is diabetic has given us a recipe. All the different areas of culinary art will be encompassed into it.”
The book will celebrate the history of the area, Rayanna explained, and make a difference in the community. “We’ll make it so it benefits the community,” she said. “All the sales will go to the Lund Community Society and the Northside Volunteer Fire Department.”
Rayanna encourages people to contribute recipes, stories and photos by the end of March this year. She plans on having the book ready to sell before Christmas.
Recipes can be emailed to [email protected] or they can be dropped off at the restaurant.
