Exchange needs homes

Host families play integral part in success of exchange

Canada World Youth (CWY) is currently looking for families who would like to host participants for three months as they take part in various volunteer projects around the community.

An international non-profit society, CWY provides a cross-cultural exchange program to introduce participants to life and work in various communities across Canada. Since 1971, 34,000 youth from Canada and around the world have participated in CWY programs in 67 countries. From December 6, 2011 through March 6, 2012, 18 youth, aged 18 to 23, from Canada and Vietnam will stay in Powell River.

Host families provide accommodation to one youth from Canada and one youth from Vietnam. All are participants in CWY’s Youth Leaders in Action, spending three months overseas and three months in Canada. A weekly allowance of $168 is provided to the host family throughout the stay.

All types of households—retirees, singles, single parents, et cetera—are invited to share their daily lives with participants. Lifestyles need not alter in any way as a goal of the program is to integrate the youth into everyday family life.
