Beer cocktails, anyone?
Powell River Friends of the Library is organizing the latest of its fundraisers as it endeavours to collect $100,000 before July 2016. The volunteer group of public library supporters has set this goal to aid in the purchase of new holdings for the new Powell River Public Library which will be about three times bigger than the current facility. The friends are calling their campaign Pump Up the Volumes.
Saturday, May 2, is their first official event entitled From Beer to Eternity, a beer cocktail function that will pit the creativity of four teams of mixologists as they vie to come up with the best tasting mixed drinks. All must include craft beer as an ingredient.
“We just wanted to help support the library,” said Paddy Treavor, president of the Powell River Campaign for Real Ale Society (CAMRA) chapter. “A good library with great resources is a cornerstone to any community.”
Treavor said that since the group of beer appreciators had set up in Powell River it wanted to be more involved in the community and this was a perfect opportunity.
Four groups—CAMRA, Magpie’s Diner, Townsite Brewing and Coastal Cookery—have come together to challenge each other to determine the People’s Choice Beer Cocktail. There will also be a black box beer cocktail challenge which will be judged by four celebrity judges. Treavor said very classy appetizers and music by CJMP 90.1FM will also be on hand. Coastal Cookery will host a special Happy Hour for the “after party.”
The event takes place from 6 to 9 pm at Studio 56, 5813 Ash Street. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased at Breakwater Books, the library and Townsite Brewing.
