On this day:
In 1965, Canadian Pacific Air Lines Flight 21 crashed in British Columbia after the tail separated from the fuselage, killing all 52 people on board. Authorities said the crash was the result of an apparent bombing.

In 2000, Venus Williams won her first Grand Slam title and became the first black female champion at Wimbledon since 1957/58 by defeating Lindsay Davenport 6-3, 7-6 (3) in the final.

In 2011, the 135th and final flight of NASA’s 30-year-long space shuttle program began with the launch of the Atlantis space shuttle.

A high of 20 degrees Celsius is expected on Friday, July 8, with skies clearing in the morning. The forecast calls for increasing cloudiness in the evening and a low of 15 degrees.
