qathet region dancers excel at pair of competitions

Teams and individuals thrive at events in Burnaby and Kelowna

Laszlo Tamasik Dance Academy (LTDA) groups and individuals recently came home with multiple wins and top ten finishes from competitions in Burnaby (Evolve Dance Competition) and Kelowna (The Vibe Dance Competition).

At the Burnaby event, the Novice A team won the DanceDown in the Mini/Junior division with a jazz piece called I am Here. The Junior/Senior Company won the teen/senior category with their advanced contemporary piece called With or Without You.

“They take the studio's highest scoring group number in the mini/junior age group and the teen/senior age group and they compete against the other studios' highest scoring teams to see who wins the overall,” said Paige Anderson, LTDA artistic director and company dance coach.

The academy’s Mini Company, Novice B Company, Novice A Company, Junior Company and Senior Company were awarded top ten finishes in their categories, and the junior and senior companies combined for a top ten finish after performing two senior contemporary numbers.

Georgia Malamas earned a top ten finish in lyrical solo, as did Hailey Essex and Courtenay Foort in contemporary duet, Charlotte Koopman-Gough and Foort in lyrical solos and Alexa Culos in jazz solo.

All of Laszlo’s musical theatre groups combined to earn the top score to win the musical theatre studio of the competition at Evolve.

LTDA choreographers Abby Head and Robin Bleasdale received choreographer awards at the competitions.
