On this day:
In 1804, former United States secretary of the treasury Alexander Hamilton was fatally wounded in a duel with United States vice-president Aaron Burr, ending a lifelong feud between the two. The incident inspired the musical Hamilton two centuries later; it premiered in 2015.

In 1859, the bell inside the famous London clock tower Big Ben chimed for the first time.

In 2010, Spain defeated Holland 1-0 in the final of the FIFA World Cup of Soccer competition.
