On this day:
In 1675, the foundation stone was laid for London’s Royal Observatory Greenwich, which is famous for being the location marking where the prime meridian (defines 0° longitude by international agreement) passes through.

In 1990, the first spacecraft to be launched by a space shuttle, Magellan, went into orbit around Venus and spent eight months gathering data about its surface.

Today’s weather:
Cloudiness is expected to increase early in the morning on Wednesday, August 10, as is a 40 per cent chance of showers late in the afternoon. The forecast calls for a high of 24 degrees Celsius during the day, dropping to 17 degrees in the evening, when chances of showers increase to 70 per cent.
