In 1917, after 109 years under Russian rule, Finland declared its independence.

In 1921, under its leader Mackenzie King, the Liberal party defeated the Conservative Party and the Progressive Party in a general election and formed a minority Canadian government.

In 1964, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer aired on television for the first time.
