On this day:
In 1612, Galileo recorded the first sighting of Neptune, noting it as a fixed star, not realizing it was a planet.

In 1918, Montreal Canadiens’ goaltender Georges Vezina assisted on a goal in his team’s 6-3 win over the Toronto Arenas, becoming the first National Hockey League goalie to do so.
