In 1937, a transcontinental air record was set by millionaire Howard Hughes in his monoplane. He flew from Los Angeles to New Jersey in seven hours, 28 minutes and 25 seconds.
In 1953, actress Lucille Ball gave birth to a son on the same day that an episode of I Love Lucy aired in which the character she portrayed, Lucy Ricardo, gave birth to the character Little Ricky.
In 1966, Indira Gandhi became the first female prime minister of India. She was assassinated in 1984.
