At approximately 7:40 am on January 11, Powell River RCMP received a report from a young adult male that he had met a female through Snapchat and she was trying to extort money from him.

The male and female had exchanged nude photos and the female subsequently created a Twitter post including the naked picture of the male and false disparaging remarks. The female stated that she would send the post to the male’s friend list if he did not send her money. The male blocked all contact and informed his friends of the potential fake post.

Powell River RCMP strongly advises against sending or posting any personal information or compromising photos through any social media outlet, especially if compromising photos include the face. Police also encourage parents to speak to their youth about the dangers of sending or posting such information.

If anyone has any questions or requires any information about internet safety, contact Powell River RCMP at 604.485.6255.
