In 1932, the neutron was discovered by English physicist James Chadwick, who was later awarded the Nobel Prize for the discovery.
In 1988, at the Calgary Olympics, East Germany’s Katarina Witt won her second gold medal in women’s figure skating.
In 1998, Britain’s House of Lords agreed to end 1,000 years of male preference by giving a monarch’s first-born daughter the same claim to the throne as any first-born son. Queen Elizabeth II approved the decision.
