Fraud complaint leads to public warning from Powell River RCMP

At approximately 4:01 pm on February 21, Powell River RCMP received a fraud complaint at a residence in the 7000 block of Adams Street.

Police received information that the homeowners had received a phone call from someone claiming to be from Telus and was offering a new promotion. When they provided a credit card number over the phone, they received a number of new charges on their credit card.

Police are reminding the public that there are many frauds occurring over the phone and internet currently. For more information on recent scams and frauds, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online at antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.
