In 1894, Montreal defeated Ottawa 3-1 in the first Stanley Cup championship hockey game ever played.

In 1963, Please Please Me, the first album from The Beatles was released; it included the hit single “Love Me Do.” 

In 1978, while attempting to walk a cable strung between two hotel towers in Puerto Rico, Karl Wallenda, leader of the Flying Wallendas high-wire act, fell to his death. He was 73.
