Minor hockey team wins second game of the day after suffering first loss

Powell River U15 Kings improved their record to two wins and one loss at the 2023 BC Hockey Tier 3 provincial championships with an 8-5 win over New Westminster on Monday, March 20. The game was the second of the day for the Powell River Minor Hockey squad, which fell 3-0 to Whitehorse that morning.

Chase Fontaine and Trentyn Takeda each scored twice for the Kings, who led 6-1 after the first period before being outscored 4-2 in the middle frame.

Beau Jameson Gagne, Kai Nouwens, Paxton Schreiber and Carter Stekman also found the back of the net for Powell River. Fontaine also had a trio of assists, while Stekman and Gagne set up one goal each.

There was no scoring in a third period when the Kings had to kill off multiple penalties.

The 10-team tournament is being held in Port Alberni.
