Powell River Minor Hockey teams continue pursuit of BC titles

U13 Kings bounce back with win in West Vancouver; U15s fail to score in second game of tournament in Port Alberni

Powell River U13 Kings bounced back from an opening day loss at the BC Hockey Tier 3 provincial championships in West Vancouver with a 7-2 win over Mission on Monday, March 20.

Lucas Gruntman and Kooper Kozmeniuk led the way offensively with a pair of goals each. Gruntman also set up three goals while Kozmeniuk had two assists for a four-point game.

Lucas Vizzutti, Cooper Lawry and Reid Stekman also scored for the Kings, who led 1-0 after the first period and 4-1 heading into the final frame.

Carson Laing, with two, Blake Peters and Gabriel Caldarone also recorded assists for the Powell River club, which evened its record at one win and one loss to sit third out of five teams in Pool B.

U13 Kings will face Terrace in their next game on Tuesday, March 21, at 10:30 am.

U15 provincials

In Port Alberni, Powell River U15 Kings suffered their first defeat at the Tier 3 provincial championships earlier this morning (March 20).

One day after scoring seven times in a win over Terrace, the U15s faced a hot goaltender and were shut out 3-0 by Whitehorse.

According to the parent of one Powell River player, “We were in the offensive zone for the majority of the game but could not get anything past their goalie.”

U15 Kings, who are in third place in Pool A after two games, will play their second game of the day versus New Westminster at 4:15 pm.
