On this day:
In 1925, the Chrysler Corporation, one of the “Big Three” automobile companies in the United States, was founded by Walter Percy Chrysler.

In 1944, 450 Canadian paratroopers were dropped behind enemy lines to assist 150,000 American, Canadian and United Kingdom troops who left England on ships to start the World War II D-Day attacks on German positions in Normandy, France. Canadians charged Juno Beach, the Americans stormed Utah and Omaha beaches, and the British were dropped at Sword and Gold beaches.

In 1946, the National Basketball Association (NBA) was founded. The first game was played five months later, on November 1, when Toronto Huskies hosted New York Knickerbockers at Maple Leaf Gardens.
