In 1873, Alexander Mackenzie became Canada’s second-ever prime minister. He replaced John A. Macdonald.

In 1885, a ceremonial final spike was driven into the Canadian Pacific Railway in Craigellachie, BC, the completion point of the railway.

In 1962, hockey hall of famer Glenn Hall set an NHL record for goalies by playing in his 503rd consecutive game.
