Powell River Villa completed a three-game home stand with a 3-2 win over Nanaimo United on Saturday, November 4.

Following a scoreless first half at Timberlane Park, Villa scored the first goal of the match in the 47th minute. Centre back Caiman Duggan headed in a corner kick from Jerod Timothy, putting the home side up 1-0. Villa extended the lead through a pass from Jack Padgett, which connected with Timothy, who was able to beat a Nanaimo defender and put the ball past the visiting goalkeeper to double the lead.

Nanaimo responded with a goal two minutes later, at the 68-minute mark, when a player was fouled in the Villa box and awarded a penalty kick, which was successfully converted, cutting the lead in half.

Villa scored its third goal and eventual game winner when Niko Cristante sent a ball through to Timothy, who finished the breakaway to notch his second of the game. Nanaimo crept within a goal again in injury time, but Villa was able to hold on for the win.

At the halfway point of the season Villa sits in sixth place in Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) Division 1 standings with 11 points. All teams have played nine matches.

Villa travels to Vancouver Island this Saturday, November 11, to face Comox Valley United.
