Jerry Eskes submitted today’s featured photo, which he took recently while walking by a community of mushrooms near Squirrel Crossing, a bridge that crosses Lang Creek just north of Duck Lake.

On this day:
In 1882, the first Christmas tree to be illuminated by electric lights was turned on in New York by Edward H. Johnson, an associate of inventor Thomas Edison. 

In 1984, Madonna’s song “Like a Virgin” reached the top of the music charts in North America.

In 1996, hockey star Brett Hull recorded his 26th career hat-trick in the National Hockey League and reached the 500-goal plateau in a game against Los Angeles Kings. He joined his father, Bobby, in the 500-goal club, the only father and son members.
