In 1901, after a reign of 63 years, Britain’s Queen Victoria died at age 81; she was succeeded by Edward VII, her eldest son.

In 2008, actor Heath Ledger was found dead of an accidental prescription overdose in a New York apartment. He was 28.

In 1989, San Francisco 49ers beat Cincinnati Bengals 20-16 to win Super Bowl XXIII in Miami.
