In 1918, more than 200 were killed when SS Tuscania, which was transporting about 2,000 American troops to Europe during World War I, was torpedoed by a German U-boat in the Irish Sea.
In 1989, Kareem Abdul-Jabar reached the 38,000 points plateau, becoming the first National Basketball Association player to do so. He finished his career with 38,387, which was recently surpassed by Lebron James, who now has 39,771 and is still active.
In 2006, Pittsburgh Steelers beat Seattle Seahawks 21-10 to win the National Football League's Super Bowl in Detroit, Michigan.
