In 1912, Quebec beats Moncton 9-3 in the first Stanley Cup challenge hockey game, which was played over three 20-minute periods. Prior games consisted of two 30-minutes halves.
In 1923, inventor Lee De Forest publicly demonstrated his sound-on-movie-film system called Phonofilm.
In 2003, Elizabeth Smart, a 15-year-old girl who had vanished from her bedroom nine months earlier, was found alive in a Salt Lake City with drifters Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Barzee. Mitchell is serving a life sentence. Barzee was released from prison in September 2018.
In 2012, the movie The Hunger Games, starring Jennifer Lawrence, premiere in theatres.
In 2020, the National Hockey League announced the pausing of the 2019/2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
