On this day:
In 1966, late singer Frank Sinatra recorded the song “Strangers in the Night”.

In 1970, Apollo 13, with astronauts James A. Lovell, Fred W. Haise and Jack Swigert, blasted off on its ill-fated mission to the moon. The trio was portrayed in a 1995 movie of the same name by actors Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton and Kevin Bacon.

In 1979, after ruling for eight years, Ugandan dictator Idi Amin was overthrown.
