Green transport roadeo arrives

Spending over $100 at the gas pump every fill-up can make drivers very curious about transportation alternatives. Fortunately, an organization working on raising awareness of how to change from a high carbon dioxide, high fossil fuel-consuming culture to a low carbon dioxide, low energy-consuming future is holding an alternative transportation show and tell.

Transition Town Powell River has organized a Green Transport “Roadeo.” BC Transit information, bicycle clinics, and electric vehicles will be available at the Evangel Pentecostal Church from 10 am to noon on Saturday, May 7.

This is an opportunity to explore the newly expanded bus schedule, see how the bike racks and wheelchair ramp work and take a tour of the city. The bus tour leaves the roadeo at 10:30 am.

The Cyclist Safety and Skills workshop, geared toward adults and led by Jason Addy, will give new cyclists encouragement, confidence and motivation to ride more often. Basic traffic and riding skills, maintenance and operation will be included.

Randy Holmquist of Canadian Electric Vehicles www.canev.com based in Errington, BC, will demonstrate the latest in electric car technology.

AC Logic of Courtenay will bring regular and foldable electric scooters to the roadeo. Electric-assist bicycles by Suncoast Cycles, and four-wheeled mobility devices by Medi-Chair, will also be on display.
