The name Matthew means Gift of God; and boy was he ever a gift!

Matt was loved, nurtured and cherished by four generations. He was a gentle soul who was funny, loving, trusting, intuitive, caring, and just a little bit stubborn.

He had many talents and passions, including music, where his excellent rhythm made him a great drummer. He loved to sing along to his favourite songs and dedicate them to his mum. He was an incredible impersonator, perfecting many alter egos from Gilligan to the Fonz, CHiPs to Darth Vader, as well as his beloved wrestlers (especially Randy Orton).

It was impossible to say no to Matt, hence his many collections of watches, videos, wrestling figures and Randy Orton (RKO) t-shirts. Matt loved holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas. He did a mean impersonation of Count Dracula, and every Christmas Eve he left out milk and cookies for Santa, and carrots for Rudolph and the rest of the reindeer.

Matt’s greatest gift was always leaving people with a smile on their face. It is with sad hearts we say goodbye to Matt, but our hearts are also filled with treasured memories for the love and joy he gave us and so many others.

He is forever remembered by his brothers Nick and Mark (Leanne); half-brother Geoffrey; his sisters Susan and Ruth (Don, his beloved sidekick and best buddy), and half-sister Charlotte; nephews Gord, Michael and Robert; nieces Natasha, Sarah, Jessica and Brittany; many great-nieces and great-nephews; his extended Simonetta family, as well as relatives in the UK. He is also remembered by special family friend Laurel, lifelong friend Peter Cossarin, and his best friend Bill “Ping-Pong” Tunstall.

Matt was predeceased by his sister Jane, nephew Jason, father Royce, stepmother Elspeth, and the person who loved and graced his life with abundance: his beloved momma Margaret Hill.

“Matthew, we loved you your whole life and we will miss you for the rest of ours.”

The family would like to thank Dr. Evans for his excellent care, as well as home care nursing and hospital staff.

A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice in memory of Matt.
