In memoriam: Mildred Adams

November 25, 1925 - April 5, 2022

Our beloved auntie, Mildred Adams, passed away on April 5, 2022. It broke our hearts to lose her at the age of 96 years old.

Our auntie was a kind, thoughtful, caring and very independent woman, who handled all life sent her way with unbelievable strength and courage.

Many happy family gatherings took place in Auntie’s home. She was a very gracious hostess and always put out plenty of treats for her guests to enjoy. Auntie Mildred’s thoughtfulness was neverending. She always remembered to send her love and a “big hug” to her loved ones. On all of our birthdays, our family received a phone call with Auntie Mildred cheerfully singing “Happy Birthday”.

We remember Auntie as loving the new beginnings in spring. She took a great interest in all of nature, birds, especially  hummingbirds and robins. Her favourite spring flowers were daffodils and tulips.

Auntie Mildred enjoyed her daily chats on the phone to her cherished sister Margaret catching up on the daily events and family news. The two sisters were very close in childhood, being born only 22 months apart. This close relationship lasted their entire lives.

One of the most important rituals in their later lives was going for walks through Westview, usually ending up at the shopping mall. When Margaret, due to health issues, had to move into the Evergreen Care Unit, Mildred continued her visits to her sister. Most often when their visits concluded Mildred and Margaret would sing their special song together, a song that Carol Burnett sang at the end of her shows.

I’m so glad we had this time together,
Just to have a laugh, or sing a song.
Seems we just got started, and before you know it,
Comes the time we have to say “so long.”

Our Auntie Mildred has gone now to reunite with the family who predeceased her: father James Joseph Andrews, mother Mildred Andrews, brother-in-law Donald Dunn and sister Margaret Dunn.

Auntie Mildred will be always remembered, always loved and forever in our hearts.

Love always, Deirdre Behan, Stephan Dunn (Cheryl), Dayna Dunn, Carl Behan (Heather), Lana Keeper (Neil), Jenna Behan, Brooke (family) and Tamara Dunn.
