CHAIR CHOSEN: qathet School District board of school trustees newly elected chairperson Jaclyn Miller.

qathet School District (qSD) board of trustees held an election and shuffled in positions earlier this week, at the monthly board meeting that took place on Wednesday, November 15.

As reported by the Peak in October, Dale Lawson stepped down as chairperson but is staying on as a trustee. Jaclyn Miller was acclaimed as the new chairperson, and Kirsten Van’t Schip was acclaimed as vice chair.

“Rob Hill is the new provincial council representative and I was named the new BC Public School Employers Association representative,” said Miller.

The annual internal election for trustees is held every November with municipal elections for trustees every four years.

Lawson said to the Peak in October that she would be nominating Miller and had been preparing her for the role as chairperson. Lawson has served the longest term on board out of the five. Maureen Mason, Rob Hill and Lawson are staying on as trustees.

“I look forward to serving the board, the district and our parents and students in this new role,” said Miller in her opening remarks.

Miller commented that all the trustees come from different backgrounds and perspectives, and that can be a great strength and benefit to qathet School Board.
