New Years Greetings January 2013

Working together benefits all
New Years Greetings January 2013

As the year has come to a close, as has my first full year as president of Powell River Chamber of Commerce, I find myself pleasantly reminded how important it is to be open to new ideas and thoughts and to never stop learning. Being on the chamber board gives an opportunity to take an active role in the community and as such, leads to encountering many new and interesting projects, events and initiatives along with meeting the variety of talented people that make up this city.

It has certainly been an interesting year and we have covered quite a spectrum of issues from wastewater and business licensing to incineration and BC Ferries. Our monthly luncheons have continued to be a success with great speakers covering an array of topics. All this is in addition to assisting our members with advocacy and benefits to grow their businesses while striving to maintain our mandate to promote and enhance trade, commerce, and the civic well-being of Powell River.

Last year I mentioned our first priority is economic creation and diversity and we will continue to aim for that goal.

The chamber board is pleased to continue to make contributions to the community as a whole, working together with local government, businesses, organizations and residents to continue to create the character of our community. We continue to give our support to many worthy causes that will no doubt assist to ensure our community’s future. By being part of the organization, each business helps make our collective voice stronger and ensures a quality community for all.

In closing, I wish all our members the very best for 2013. I gratefully acknowledge our chamber manager Kim Miller for her tireless dedication to both our chamber and the community, as well as my fellow directors for their time and dedication to chamber business and the community as a whole.

Jack Barr, president
