Poetry Slam back for a second year

Amid coffee and lattes in Cranberry Community Hall, poets will have the chance to compete for prizes in the second Powell River Poetry Slam.

Amid coffee and lattes in Cranberry Community Hall, poets will have the chance to compete for prizes in the second Powell River Poetry Slam.

Jomichele Seidl, assistant librarian at Powell River Public Library, said last spring’s poetry competition was quite successful, though the slam isn’t just about competing.

“After the contest there will just be an open mic for poets,” she said. “They can read their own work or someone else’s work. It will be a coffee-house atmosphere.”

Admission to the slam will be by a minimum $5 donation. It is on a first come, first served basis.

Poets can congregate at the slam starting at 7 pm on Friday, March 23 at the hall, 6826 Cranberry Street. Those interested in attending can pre-register by emailing Joel Benson at [email protected].
