Powell River mayor takes part in Pride Month flag raising

Crowd gathers at city hall for rescheduled ceremony after vandals disrupted the event last week

Flags at Powell River City Hall were cut down by vandals earlier this month, disrupting a pride flag raising. The matter now under police investigation.

City of Powell River mayor Ron Woznow and qathet Pride Society president Donna Gillenardo-Goudreau raised the pride flag in a delayed ceremony on June 9, with many people in attendance.

On June 3, Powell River RCMP received a report that three flags flying at city hall, along with ropes and hardware, were stolen from the flagpole sometime over the previous weekend.

In addition to the flag raising, qathet Pride Society has a full calendar of upcoming events planned, including the second annual Pride Parade and Pride in the Park.
